Dear Neighbor,
Representing you and your family in Congress is my greatest honor. As we kick off the new month I wanted to reflect on this past month in the district. Over the last few weeks, I’ve been visiting schools and small businesses and meeting with local leaders in our community here in Southern California.
Coffee with the Mayors
I was proud to kick off the new year meeting with mayors from around the district to discuss our priorities for the new year! We discussed key issues facing our cities and how we can collaborate in ensuring we are working in the best interests of our community.
Providing opportunities for kids/supporting our children
While in the district, I also had a fun and joyful chance to chat with our Whittier Brownie Troops and tour the Rowland Unified School District. These young leaders are full of energy and excitement, and I can’t wait to see what they achieve!
I was also proud to host my first ever Congressional App Challenge ceremony! During the ceremony, we recognized all the students who participated and created their own app.
Congratulations to all our talented students and a big congrats to our First Place Winner, Andrea Yang, from Diamond Bar!
Andrea Yang is a student at Diamond Bar High School and her winning app “Starfly” is designed to employ 21 STEM lesson plans and encourage women and minorities to take interest in the space industry!
Now, Andrea will have the opportunity to travel to Washington, DC to share her app with other Members of Congress and meet her fellow student coders from across the country!
Supporting small businesses
Small businesses and entrepreneurs are critical to our local economy, and we need to ensure they have the tools and resources they need to succeed. That’s why I’m glad to join the openings of small business whenever I can – like most recently that of Mountain Mike’s Pizza in Norwalk.
I’m always happy to support local businesses, job creation, and the entrepreneurial spirit!
It’s been a busy few weeks in SoCal, for sure!
As always, I am thankful for your continued support, and I look forward to the great things we accomplish together in the rest of this year.
Sincerely,
Linda T. Sánchez
Member of Congress
