Hi John, it's Gabby Giffords. In 2011, in the blink of an eye, my life changed forever: I was shot in the head while holding an event with
constituents in a grocery store parking lot. Six people were killed that day,
and 12 others were injured.

For me, moving forward from this tragedy meant going back to my
roots: public service and making life better for my community. I found
purpose and healing in dedicating my life to preventing shootings like the one
that took the lives of my constituents – and nearly took mine – by founding
GIFFORDS PAC.

To pass real, comprehensive gun safety legislation, we need new leaders in Congress who will fight against the gun lobby and for meaningful change – that is why last week we endorsed Emily Busch in the race against John James to represent Michigan’s 10th district.

John, this is Emily Busch and her son, Andrew.

In 2021, a mass shooting at Andrew's school took the lives of four students and injured six other students and one teacher.

After seeing the devastating impact gun violence had on her community, and the resulting inaction from a Republican elected official, Emily decided that she could be the voice her community needed.

And I completely agree. Emily's work in the community, combined with her passion and drive, will allow her to be a strong advocate for the families in the district and across Michigan that need someone to fight for gun safety.

Now more than ever, we need representatives in Congress who can speak to the real life impact of gun violence on a community and fight for stronger gun safety measures.

I wholeheartedly stand by Emily's campaign for Congress, but she's relying on a strong base of grassroots support to get her message to people across MI-10. Will you chip in any amount toward her people-powered movement?

Thank you

Gabby Giffords

Emily Busch Headshot

Emily first learned the importance of community and helping others from her mom, a nurse, and dad, a manufacturing representative, while growing up in a tight-knit, middle-class Midwestern family.

The proud product of public schools, Emily worked hard in and out of the classroom, balancing her studies and interest in performing arts with an after-school job as a cashier at Ace Hardware. She went on to earn her B.A. in Biology from Indiana University and Masters from Michigan State University.

Now, Emily is running for Congress in Michigan’s 10th District to keep our kids safe, protect our rights, and lower costs for Michigan families.

Emily chose to move to Oakland County two decades ago because it was the place she wanted to raise her family – a place with friendly neighbors, good schools, and safe neighborhoods.

She and her husband, a retired firefighter and Marine, enjoy camping, fishing, and visiting national parks in their free time.
