Hello, John --
Today marks the 10th anniversary of the passage of the Affordable Healthcare Act, which represents the most significant overhaul and expansion of healthcare coverage since the passage of Medicare and Medicaid in 1965.
It isn't unnoticed by me that the most significant challenges Gabby and I have faced have to do with health care.
Gabby and I have had some remarkable opportunities in our lives.
She was the youngest woman elected to the Arizona Senate and was only the third woman to represent Arizona in Congress. I was the second person in my family to fly into space.
We are both incredibly thankful for the gift of opportunity that this country has afforded us.
However, we have also faced some incredible challenges.
Gabby suffered a catastrophic injury from a gunshot wound to the head. I got cancer between a couple of my space shuttle flights. My parents died of the disease.
But we were fortunate enough to have coverage that did not fail us when we needed it the most.
However, that is not true for every American.
Now more than ever, we have to find a way to provide good health care coverage for every American that they can get even if they have a pre-existing condition and that they can keep if they get sick.
The U.S. Senate helps make these decisions, but I can't help if I don't get elected.
So please chip in anything you can, when you can. If we have the resources we can win. And if we win we can work to bring affordable and reliable health care to more Americans.
