John,
For the entire month of February, we are excited to participate in Black Futures Month celebrations and recognitions! Black movement leaders coined Black Futures Month as a visionary, forward-looking spin on celebrations of Blackness in February because it is important to manifest and dream of a world where all Black Lives Matter.
This month and beyond, we remember the importance and work of our ancestors and those before us – but at the same time, we work together to move forward. To move in a bold, progressive direction in order to take our futures into our own hands.
This Black Futures Month, we are dedicated to highlighting aspects of community care, education, culture, wellness, and how our past directly impacts the present and future. Each day of the week will have a specific theme dedicated to various aspects of liberation, protest, and more.
Take a look:
-
Music Mondays: We'll uplift our favorite Black artists and groups from different eras and moments every Monday
-
Tech and Innovation Tuesdays: Every Tuesday in February, we'll talk through Black innovators of the past and present, working off the connection to Black history and futures – where we were, where we are, and where we're going
-
Wellness Wednesdays: Every Wednesday in February, we will discuss the importance of wellness in the Black community. From radical rest to overcoming mental health stigmas, there are plenty of resources available and forms of wellness for Black people to be uplifted
-
Throwback Thursdays: Every Thursday in February, we'll do a roundup and/or a series of posts on Black History, making the connection of our history and how it's relevant to our future
-
Film Fridays: Black Lives Matter has a TON of original content, and you'll get an exclusive look into our work through our Film Fridays. From centering healing justice to reimagining the future of public safety in practice
We've got an entire month ahead of us – so be sure you're following us on social media and don't miss any Black Futures Month content! >>
In love and solidarity,
Black Lives Matter
