Contact your elected officials TODAY to encourage local cities and the state of California to enact emergency moratoriums on evictions in light of the current public health crisis.
Everyone in our community deserves stable and safe housing. Due to the COVID-19 crisis, people in our community who are unable to work because their hours have been cut, or because they are ill or caring for a family member who is ill, face an uncertain future.
If our community members cannot make their rental payments, they may be evicted and end up homeless, a serious threat to their own health and the health of our entire community. Although we understand the burden some landlords may face with a moratorium, our communities have a responsibility to keep people housed during this unprecedented crisis.
Taking the actions below will help the Law Foundation and our entire community.
-
If you live in Palo Alto, Gilroy, unincorporated Santa Clara County, Cupertino, or Santa Clara, send an email in support, as they are considering moratoriums today or Tuesday. If you live in other Santa Clara County cities, reach out to your local elected officials and encourage them to enact an emergency eviction moratorium. Contact information for the City Councilmembers is below. A sample letter is available here.

Gov. Newsom recently stated he will soon make an announcement addressing rent and mortgage payments. Governor Newsom needs to hear from as many of us as possible in the next 24 hours to ensure any protections are what our communities need. Sign the petition here or email him directly.
