Friend,
I have some good news to share, Friend.
Last week, the Biden administration announced it would implement a pause on approving all pending liquified natural gas (LNG) export licenses while it reviews the harms to our climate and the public.
This news is getting some buzz—and with good reason.
The importance of this win, for frontline communities and our planet, cannot be overstated. Hard-won, this victory is the direct result of a sustained, powerful campaign by grassroots organizers in the Gulf, who have long led this fight, and climate organizers around the country.
Since the news broke, we've been hearing lots of questions about what this means, why it matters, and how we can push to make this pause permanent. So, we answered these and other FAQs in our latest explainer blog:
What is LNG, and why can it be just as bad as coal?

If this is a temporary pause, what comes next? What can I do to stand up to polluters?

Right now, the U.S. is the top global exporter of LNG. It's not a title we should be proud of, and it's come at the cost of predominantly Black, Brown, and low-income frontline communities, our public health, and our climate.
We've known for decades that transitioning away from fossil fuels and to reliable clean energy is the only way we can truly achieve energy security and a healthier planet. And we also know Big Oil and their cronies are going to fight to block our progress.
So, it's absolutely critical that we keep the pressure on President Biden and DOE to protect this important victory.
