Of all the lessons Black History Month urges us to learn, working together to succeed against all odds is perhaps the biggest. Civil rights leaders recognized the inseparable ties between economic injustice and racial injustice. And despite the incredible changes they’ve made, the work to heal our structurally unfair economic system continues.

We have an economy where people who work shifts at two different jobs cannot afford dinner on the same day ... after decades of hard work, buying a home can still only remain a dream ... and most of them are people of color who must battle discrimination and unfair bias from bosses and lenders.

In the face of such massive injustices, we’re leaning on examples of powerful Black changemakers who came before us to change the seemingly impossible. We can transform our economy, and we won’t stop until our economy works for everyone — especially for Black communities and people of color who have been excluded by design for centuries.
