Tom Cotton goes full racist, badgers TikTok CEO on whether he’s Chinese
Senator Tom Cotton put his bigotry on full display during a Senate hearing when he repeatedly asked the CEO of TikTok if he was "a member of the Chinese Communist Party" even after Shou Zi Chew told him that, in fact, he was from Singapore. But it was obvious that facts or any kind of basic human decency wouldn't stand in the way of Cotton getting himself on camera being Very Tough On Chinese Communism — which we're sure is the biggest concern of the people of Arkansas. The GOP has seized on the TikTok=Communist Plot! narrative because it suits all their agendas — they get an excuse to be racist, they get to spin hysterical conspiracy theories about China, and they get to publicly attack a social media platform that has proven to be a very effective outreach tool for Democrats to engage with Gen Z.

VIDEO OF THE DAY: Fed up sports analyst torches conservatives for attacking Taylor Swift
Fox Sports' Colin Cowherd took a Texas-sized scalpel and absolutely eviscerated lonely "sad guys" across America losing their collective shit over a female pop star briefly entering their safe space — NFL TV broadcasts — and making them feel uncomfortable. Cowherd rightly pointed out that, for decades, the sports world has celebrated celebrity fans on the sidelines and in the stands, albeit with one very important caveat — they've almost always been men. No doubt making a LOT of enemies, Cowherd hit the nail on the head: "But a talented, beautiful woman is on the air — one who would never pay attention to lonely men — and it bothers them." America's "sad guys" aren't alone, of course. Their pied pipers and dog whistlers in conservative media are currently in full-scale panic mode over Swift's pedestrian call for her followers to — shudder to think — participate in our elections. Cowherd closed with a mic drop for the ages: "Judge people by the silly things that bother them." Hell yes.

Corporate jagoffs have no place in Congress
Chris Deluzio for Congress: Chris is running for reelection in one of the most competitive districts in the nation. His GOP extremist opponents have sided with corporate jagoffs over the American people. We can't let them win. Will you chip in today to flip the House blue and get America back on track?
Republicans are weaponizing a boring House tradition, grinding most legislation to a halt, and unwittingly empowering Democrats
Radical, right-wing House Speaker Mike Johnson, boxed in by somehow-even-more-radical-right-wing goons in his own caucus, has twice resorted to short-circuiting the legislative process with a "suspension of rules" trick to pass critical stopgap funding bills with a straight floor vote (which requires a two-thirds majority to pass) and avoid a catastrophic government shutdown. In doing so, Johnson has been forced to rely on Democrats to step up and be the adults in a room full of tantruming clowns doing their best to render themselves and the chamber irrelevant. Welcome to the new House of Representatives under this razor-thin Republican majority, which has become so inept at moving legislation through the normal process that it's counting on the Democratic minority to save it from political self-immolation.

Activist who led ouster of Harvard president is a eugenics enthusiast
Well, well, well. What do we have here? Right-wing gutter troll and fake Harvard man Christopher Rufo is connected to a self-styled "sociobiology magazine" that is focused on the supposed relationships between race, intelligence, and criminality, and which experts have characterized as an outlet for bunk scientific racism. Turns out Rufo, who led the behind-the-scenes charge to oust former Harvard President Claudine Gay, fancies himself a eugenicist! While the "anti-woke" crusader laughably describes his work as a pursuit for “colorblind equality," the company he keeps and, well, the shit that comes out of his mouth, paints a very different picture.

Lindsey Graham rails against Zuckerberg and tech CEOs: "You have blood on your hands"
At a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on social media safety, Republican senator and South Carolina man passionately committed to remaining relevant at any cost Lindsey Graham trained his workshopped ire on Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and other social media CEOs for their role in perpetuating rampant online abuse and incessantly pushing products that are "killing people." While Graham may be more or less right about social media's negative impact on mental health, hearing a bloodthirsty, Republican hawk who has spent the past 20 years advocating for regular military misadventures, airstrikes, and bombing campaigns that have claimed countless innocent lives rings more than a little hollow. Does make for a nice soundbyte, though.
No charges for New Mexico cops who went to the wrong house and killed the owner
The New Mexico Department of Justice has decided not to press charges against three Farmington Police Dept. officers involved in the shooting death of an innocent man in April, after they parked their cars down the street — without their lights on — and knocked on the door of the wrong house during a late-night domestic violence call. 52-year-old Robert Dotson grabbed his gun from the top of the refrigerator and went to open his front door, where he was immediately met with a barrage of gunfire and fatally struck by 12 bullets. State justice officials found that the officers "did not use excessive force under the circumstances when they discharged their weapons" and that "the officers' initial approach to the Dotson home, although they erroneously approached the wrong house, was reasonable, appropriate and consistent with generally accepted police practices." Make it make sense.

90-year-old Republican senator signals opposition to bipartisan tax bill with popular child tax credit changes because it "makes the president look good"
GOP Sen. Chuck Grassley said the quiet — and very cruel — part out loud, signaling opposition to a $78 billion package which includes an enhanced child tax credit for low-income families and the extension of some tax benefits for businesses that were enacted in 2017. Additionally, the legislation contains funding for people affected by natural and manmade disasters, which are on the rise if you haven't noticed. None of that is enough to sway the 90-year-old Grassley, though, because passing the bill "makes the president look good" and, well, shit, we cannot have that in an election year, folks.
Conservative headhunters have ID'd their next target: Harvard's DEI chief
Surprise, surprise. Radical, right-wing, Christian nationalists aren't satisfied with the havoc they've wreaked on Harvard University and have found their latest bogeyman at the embattled institution. Harvard’s chief diversity and inclusion officer, Sherri Charleston, is just the latest higher education administrator to be hit with plagiarism allegations this week — just weeks after a similar right-wing smear campaign forced the resignation of the school’s first Black president, Claudine Gay.
Ex-Boeing employees urge people not to fly on 737 Max 9s
Despite the fact that the Federal Aviation Administration has cleared the way for Boeing’s troubled 737 Max 9 planes to return to the air, many critics and industry insiders are speaking out about the allegedly flawed investigation process and their hesitation about flying on the aerospace giant’s products until serious changes are announced. “I would absolutely not fly a Max airplane,” Ed Pierson, a former senior manager at the company, told the Los Angeles Times this week. “I've worked in the factory where they were built, and I saw the pressure employees were under to rush the planes out the door. I tried to get them to shut down before the first crash.” Another former Boeing and FAA engineer, Joe Jacobsen, told the newspaper: “I would tell my family to avoid the Max. I would tell everyone, really.”
Donors to NYC Mayor Adams’ 2025 campaign say they were secretly reimbursed thousands of dollars
The myriad and increasingly bizarre scandals surrounding the mayor of New York — which now include mysterious links to the Turkish government? — continue to grow at a shocking pace. The newest allegations include tens of thousands of dollars in campaign donations being refunded to construction and hotel executives...which, as you might be able to guess, is HIGHLY illegal.
