People For has recently scored important victories in our years-long campaign to ensure fair courts with highly-qualified, fair-minded, diverse judges committed to justice and equality for all. We were a major player in helping to secure the nomination and confirmation of a stunningly diverse slate of extraordinarily qualified judges. We worked with the White House to encourage the nomination of high-quality nominees and with the Senate Judiciary Committee and full Senate to process and confirm them.

We should celebrate these historic nominees and continue pressing the Senate to confirm even more.

Stopping the re-election of Donald Trump is crucial to protecting American democracy and ensuring all of our rights. There are numerous civil and criminal court cases against Trump now pending in federal and state courts. The lawsuits challenging whether Trump can remain on the ballot have also drawn much attention. As we enter prime presidential campaign season, a key question for all of us is how these cases - and what happens in them over the next six months - are important to stopping Trump’s effort to return to the White House. The whole country has now witnessed a nightmare worthy of “The Handmaid’s Tale” unfold for a Texas woman. After a court denied the abortion Kate Cox’s doctors said was medically necessary, she was forced to flee her home state to get care because of Texas’s extreme abortion ban. The case exposed not just one family’s heartbreak, but also the hollowness of promises that abortion bans can include exceptions for the life and health of the mother.
