This is an exciting opportunity for students to showcase their writing skills, gain exposure in our prestigious journal, and win cash prizes. Suggested topics include the future of higher education, egalitarianism, universal basic income, the COVID pandemic, or any other topic at the intersection of economics, politics, philosophy, law, and public policy.

Student Prizes
First Prize: $3,500 student prize
Essay published in print in a future issue of The Independent Review
Second Prize: $2,000 student prize
Essay published as a web exclusive in a future issue of The Independent Review
Third Prize: $1,500 student prize
Essay published as a web exclusive in a future issue of The Independent Review

Faculty Prizes
$1,000 for the professor or instructor sponsoring each of the three student winners

Submission Deadline
May 15, 2024

Essay Length
2,500 – 5,000 words

Essays will be judged on the clarity and coherence of their arguments, originality, relevance to the chosen topic, and command of evidence and research.
