Hi John.
I hope you and your family are doing well!
We're just one month into 2024, and while it hasn't been long, I'm heartened to witness the ongoing progress that Kansans are achieving through collaboration. So today, I wanted to share an update on how my team and I are pushing to lower costs for hardworking Kansans.
Lowering Gas Prices in Kansas
I’m pleased to share that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has awarded a federal grant to Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores in Ottawa. This federal investment will boost the use of biofuels made right here in Kansas and help lower gas prices.
I was glad to help pass the law that made this grant possible. Click here to learn more about it.
My priority is building an economy that works for everyone – especially for folks in the middle- and working-classes.
We’ve thankfully seen some progress on lowering the cost of gas. But we must keep at it.
That’s why I’m focused on an all-of-the-above strategy to lower gas prices. For example, I helped pass a law that invests in American energy and clean energy production to reduce our dependence on foreign oil. This can help lower gas prices and utility bills. I've also voted to crack down on price gouging by big oil and gas companies.

Investing in Kansas Agriculture and Lowering Grocery Prices
I’m pleased to share that I recently helped bring new USDA investments home to Kansas to secure our agricultural supply chains.
Specifically, these resources mean more support for water conservation and groundwater management in the High Plains Aquifer. This is the largest groundwater source in Kansas. It’s incredibly important for our farmers and economy.

On the U.S. House Agriculture Committee, I’m glad to work with both Republicans and Democrats to help Kansas producers and the millions of people around the world they feed.
Securing our agricultural supply chains in Kansas is important for lowering prices at the grocery store. It means growing and producing food more efficiently, providing certainty to Kansas producers, and ultimately lowering costs for families.
Thankfully, we’re seeing important progress in this area. For example, I was glad to help support more renewable forms of energy that are now lowering animal feed prices and the cost of meat and poultry. This is welcome, but I also know there’s a lot more to do.

Making Housing More Affordable
I’m also pleased to share that the Pathway at Heritage Park housing project in Olathe broke ground earlier this month.
This development is backed by federal initiatives I’ve championed in the House. It means building 14 new single-family homes in the area. This is about boosting the supply of affordable housing to help get prices down.
Please click here to learn more about it in the Olathe Reporter.
Growing our housing supply and lowering costs is essential for our community's well-being, especially as Johnson County continues to grow and attract new businesses like Panasonic.
I know many folks in our community are struggling with high mortgages and housing costs. This project will help turn the dream of homeownership into a reality for Kansas families.

I know many Kansans are continuing to deal with costs that are far too high. I understand how frustrating that can be when life is hard enough already. Thankfully, we’re also seeing some important progress in our economy. The rate of inflation has come down significantly, and our economy has created millions of new jobs.
Now we have to keep it up by focusing on concrete and bipartisan solutions to make life more affordable. The last thing we need is more extremism, division, and empty promises that’ll take us backwards.
My job is to serve every person and corner of our community – regardless of party. Whether we agree on every issue or not is beside the point. Everyone deserves a government that works for them — not just for special interests, big corporations, or the extremes of either party.
Again, please visit davids.house.gov/lowercosts to find resources for you and your family. It’s an honor to serve you in the U.S. House of Representatives. If you have any questions or would like to share your views, please feel free to contact me.
My warmest regards,
Sharice L. Davids Member of Congress
