John, I emailed you a little earlier today to let you know about my 200,000 mile landmark over the weekend. But now, I have some less exciting news—and it’s a big reminder that even after we get past our primary, there’s a lot of work ahead of us.
John, I just got word that one of the Republicans running for this seat reserved
half a million dollarsin TV spots for his primaryrace. This wasn’t money he raised from individual donors, either—his finance report shows that he loaned himself every cent, because he knows that the only way he’ll win is to buy this seat.
If he’s willing to spend that much just on getting through his primary, then I can expect that’s just a fraction of what he’ll be willing to put up against our campaign in the Fall. If we want to go toe-to-toe with him, then we’re going to need to build a massive war chest.
I know we can get there—in 2023, this campaign raised the most from individual donations that any non-incumbent Democrat has raised for Treasurer in an off-year this century, and that was because we have the backing of real North Carolinians who are ready for a government that believes in them. But ensuring we’ll have the resources to overcome Republican attacks later this year means we have to start digging in and raising for the general election right now.
The bright side is that if everyone who reads this email gave just $20 today, we would raise most of what we need to get through the rest of the primary right now. That would put us in a great position to wrap up a few budgetary loose ends early and give me the security to really focus on raising for November.
And the more grassroots power that we can show the world, the louder our message will be to the Republican Party that North Carolina isn’t for sale.
