John,

2024 is our chance to elect more Greens who take people and the planet seriously and will stand up for a greener and safer future. Scroll to find out more about how you can get involved 🔽

The Independent, in a piece highlighting that more than 250 charities, religious organisations and civil society bodies have called on the House of Lords to block the “deeply harmful” Rwanda bill, includes a quote from Green peer Jenny Jones, calling on fellow members to “stop this appalling bill”. She said: “It is not a manifesto commitment and convention allows the Lords to reject it. If the prime minister wants to claim the Rwanda bill is the will of the people then please hold a general election”.

Writing for Left Foot Forward, Green MP Caroline Lucas set out four principles that could start to move towards peace and a lasting political resolution in Israel/Gaza: “The eyes of the world may well be on this narrow strip of land right now, but they’ve been largely absent as Gazans have been forced to live in an open prison, systematically stripped of their dignity and freedom, by both the Israeli authorities and by Hamas.” Left Foot Forward also reported on Caroline's question during Prime Minister's Questions calling for a ceasefire.

Responding to the Joseph Rowntree Foundation report on poverty, co-leader Carla Denyer said: “Poverty is a political choice. There are things that can be done quickly to address the sickening levels of poverty in our society. For example, the Green Party would increase Universal Credit by £40 per week and abolish the two-child benefit cap. A wealth tax on the super-rich, along with tax reforms such as changes to Capital Gains Tax and abolishing 'non-dom status,' could pay for these and other measures to reduce poverty."

The Green Party challenge Labour on Wealth Tax. Co-leader Adrian Ramsay said: “Labour have been hesitant to challenge the grotesque levels of wealth of the super-rich. The Green Party has a clear message for the World Economic Forum: we are proud to be the Party willing to tackle inequality and implement the policies needed to create a fairer, greener planet. That’s why we support the introduction of a wealth tax on the super-rich and we challenge Labour to use the platform they have at Davos to commit to the same.”

Join the national action weekend in one of our target constituencies 10 and 11 February!

The campaign to win Green MPs in the next general election has already begun. In fact, it started years ago and is powered by volunteers just like you. Our huge election success in recent years is down to campaigns starting early and getting ahead of the other parties.

This February, we'll be knocking on doors, delivering leaflets and speaking to residents to tell them about the amazing work Greens do and the importance of the Green vote. Sign up here to help get the next generation of Green MPs elected:

Do you want to make a difference and help build a greener future? We are currently recruiting for a Database Administrator (full-time, 35 hours per week) - closing date 1pm 12 February and PAs for our co-leaders - Carla Denyer (part-time, 30 hours per week) and Adrian Ramsey (full-time, 35 hours per week) - closing date 1pm 15 February. Full job descriptions and details on how to apply can be found on our jobs site here

In 2019, the Tories spent £16.5 million on its general election campaign, Labour spent £12 million and the Lib Dems £14.5 million. We spent just £470 thousand.

The need for powerful Green voices in parliament has never been greater in what is a vital decade for climate and nature action. As António Guterres said, this is the age of global boiling. Time is running out.

But we need to raise more money to get the next generation of Green MPs elected. So we must step up our efforts to build an ethical election fighting fund to get four Green MPs elected. Will you support our Four for 24 campaign?

Have a great week.

The Green Party 💚
