Two ways to get involved with 5 Gyres!

Can you guess what national parks have in common with the clothes you’re wearing? The answer is PLASTIC.

Plastic pollution is more than just the 170 trillion plastic particles ([link removed]) floating at sea. It’s found everywhere on the planet, from the tallest mountains to Antarctic snow. It’s in the food we eat, the air we breathe, and our own bodies. 5 Gyres is committed to supporting solutions that reduce the harm of plastic pollution, and today, we’re sharing two projects that YOU can get involved in!

PLASTIC-FREE PARKS 🏞️

Today, we published the 2023 Plastic-Free Parks report ([link removed]) , revealing findings from our nationwide TrashBlitz effort in national parks and federal lands. Unsurprisingly, plastic was the top material found for the second year in a row, making up of 66% of waste documented. Furthermore, the majority of items were single-use plastic — designed to use once and throw away. The report outlines key findings and offers recommendations to reduce the harm of plastic pollution in our protected spaces.

DO LESS FOR THE PLANET 🌎
[link removed]

In a world that tells us we always need “more of this,” or “the newest that,” the truth is that we need less: less textile waste piling up in the Atacama Desert, fewer microfibers making their way into the environment, less plastic packaging wrapping the things we buy.

We challenge you to #DoLessForThePlanet by buying less, washing less, and wasting less. Take the pledge today ([link removed]) to unlock access to exclusive resources and virtual workshops — kicking off tomorrow!

P.S. We’re looking for a great infographic designer for a project. If this sounds like you, send us an email (mailto:[email protected]?subject=Infographic%20Designer&body=) !
