Friend,
I want to use this space to provide updates about COVID-19 and how our city and your government are responding. First, I want to say that I am so incredibly proud of our community and how we have joined together to face this public health crisis.
It's true our lives have all changed drastically as we upend our daily routines to mitigate the spread. While the City of Richmond offices are shut down through the end of the month, we are still hard at work to soften the impact this crisis will have on our residents and our businesses. On Friday night, I sent an update of my administration’s response to COVID-19 to City Council. You can see the full memorandum here.
Many of you have reached out to me to ask how you can help during this crisis. I am humbled again by how strong our community truly is. If you would like to take part, I encourage you to share your time, resources, and even donate if you can to local food banks, charities, blood banks, and homeless shelters. My team compiled some helpful links, which I will leave for you below:
I also encourage you to help out your neighbors. If you are able, offer child care to those who aren't able to take off work. If you can, go pick up groceries for neighbors who have a higher risk of getting sick. And remember to be kind to one another – together, we will get through this as a city. Finally, as a reminder, the most important step we can take is to stay home as much as possible. Social distancing is our best tool to stop this virus.
We are safer and stronger at home.
I will continue to advocate for our community to keep our families safe and protect our local economy. Please stay up to date about the most recent news regarding COVID-19.
Thank you, and remain vigilant,
Levar Stoney
Mayor of Richmond
