In the time since President Biden took office, as the Chair of the ultra-conservative, pro-MAGA Freedom Caucus, Perry is the one behind the debt ceiling standoff, the ouster of Kevin McCarthy, the repeated threats of a government shutdown, the complete dysfunction in the House of Representatives, and the election of the current pro-Trump Speaker Mike Johnson.
