Dive Into Our Fifth Principle: Learn, Share, Evolve

We’ve just released a comprehensive suite of resources designed to support you in answering this three-part call to action and transform grantmaking in the process. Take a deep dive through a supersized edition of the Journal, action planner, roundtable video, and a community conversation.

Explore the Journal today. Inside is an extensive suite of articles from grantmakers who share their stories about how they are activating Learn, Share, Evolve in their own work and offer inspiration for how you can begin driving change in your own organization. Members, log in to download the complete edition as a PDF or access the entire online version. Organization and Consultant Members will receive a printed Journal in their mailboxes in the coming weeks!

Read the action planner. Get a primer on the Principle, and learn three actions you can take to put it into practice in this resource that is open to the community.

Watch our video of roundtable highlights. Don’t miss the insights from this gathering of six PEAK community leaders sharing their perspectives on how they have seen evolution in the sector from where they sit—and what changes they most hope to see.

RSVP for the Learn, Share, Evolve Community Conversation. Join us on February 21 to hear directly from guest editors who cocreated the Journal with us and learn more about how you can strengthen the practice of curiosity, allow for informal and formal learning, and help build knowledge-sharing habits.

No audio is playing. PEAK 2024 Seattle March 18-20 is in white text over an earthy blue backdrop of the Seattle skyline. The Space Needle is on the far left and the Seattle Great Wheel spins on the far right with buildings in between. A yellow sun peeks out from the top left corner with three clouds. Hawks fly on the top right near the wheel and a tree. There is slight animation throughout the gif.

SURVEY

Take Our GMS Experience Survey

Tech Impact has partnered with PEAK, Grantbook, and TAG to update A Consumer’s Guide to Grant Management Systems, and we need your help in sharing your GMS experiences.

Scheduled for publication this summer, the report reviews dozens of systems against more than 100 criteria developed with the help of consultants, vendors, foundation staff, and system administrators. For the first time, the guide will also include an interactive digital component to make it easier than ever to compare features, systems, and pricing to help funders choose the best software for their needs.

Please take a few minutes to respond to this short questionnaire about your experience working with your GMS vendor. The survey closes on
February 23.

Peer Network Spotlight

PEAK offers members diverse peer spaces for learning, sharing, and evolving in our thriving chapters and peer groups. Each month, we showcase the meaningful programming and networking taking place in these volunteer-led spaces and how the PEAK team is supporting their work. Stay up to date on upcoming meetings by checking PEAK’s events calendar.

Chapters are beginning the year with opportunities to connect and reflect both virtually and in-person. In January, PEAK Pacific Northwest gathered members online at multiple monthly coffee hours to engage in meaningful discussions about current events in philanthropy. PEAK Northeast hosted an informal, in-person gathering for new and returning members to set goals for 2024. PEAK extends its appreciation to Candid for being a gracious pro-bono host! PEAK Rocky Mountain hosted a virtual workshop led by Marissa Lifshen Steinberger of One Eleven Leadership where participants were offered a treasure trove of information about how people operate, what motivates them, and how they respond to expectations.

PEAK in Community

Here’s the latest on how PEAK is engaging with member organizations, partners, nonprofits, and allies in advocating for transformative change and leading the way in advancing equitable and effective grantmaking practices.

David speaks at a podium.

We send all our best wishes and deepest appreciation to David Biemesderfer who stepped down as president and CEO of United Philanthropy Forum on January 15 after seven years in the role. During his time, he worked to help philanthropy-supporting organizations to be more efficient and effective by focusing on the pillars of racial equity, diversity and inclusion, public policy, philanthropic practice, and knowledge management. Thank you for your many contributions to improve the sector!

As a member of the Nonprofit Infrastructure Coalition, we believe that voting is the cornerstone of a healthy civil society. To protect this critical right, PEAK joined a group of foundations and philanthropy-supporting organizations to support the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act of 2023, H.R. 14. Read the Coalition’s letter here.

PEAK has also signed onto the Council on Foundations and Independent Sector amicus brief calling for dismissal of the lawsuit against the Atlanta-based Fearless Foundation, an organization led by Black women that helps combat underfunding in venture capital by providing grants, tools, and mentorship to women of color. Join us in expressing solidarity in affirming the rights of philanthropies, nonprofits, and individual donors to give in ways that align with their values, as protected by the First Amendment—including critical efforts to support historically marginalized groups.

PEAK shared our racial equity journey with philanthropy-supporting organization peers by contributing to United Philanthropy Forum’s Racial Equity Case Stories series. In November, PEAK Senior Community Engagement Manager Altinay Cortes and former board member Janet Camarena shared PEAK’s journey during the webinar “Journey Toward Racial Equity: PSO Case Story Webinar Series,” moderated by Deborah Aubert Thomas, CEO of Philanthropy Ohio and the Forum's Racial Equity Committee chair.

Closing out 2023, President and CEO Satonya Fair joined the Candid nonprofit community for the webinar “From Scarcity to Abundance.” Using our Principles as a pathway, she discussed how philanthropic approaches must be adapted to ensure funders are living their values through their operational practices. For Blackbaud, Satonya presented “Learning and Unlearning to Be Next Level,” delving into how both individuals and organizations need to shed old ways of thinking and operating that no longer serve leaders or our sector and shared PEAK's own journey to help the organization and the sector fully embrace equitable and inclusive practices as essential to operational excellence.
