John, over so the weekend, I hit a pretty important milestone on this campaign as my odometer ticked over to 200,000 miles.

I promise I stopped by the side of the road to take this!
Now, to be fair, I’ve been putting those miles on this car since 2015, but judging from the fact that I’ve been having to get my oil changed once or twice a month since last March, things have certainly kicked up a notch.
It’s been a long journey, and we’ve still got quite a ways to go—but the many miles of crisscrossing our state and sharing our message of opportunity and investment with voters from the Appalachians to the Atlantic have been absolutely incredible. All one hundred of our counties deserve a candidate who believes in them and who is committed to showing up.
I’m sure I could put another 200,000 miles on my car between here and November, but before we get there, we have to get through the Democratic primary in just a few short weeks— and today is our last end-of-month fundraising goal before early voting starts on February 15th.
It’s critical that our campaign comes out on top so that we can have a nominee this Fall who has what it takes to flip this seat. To get there, we’re really going to have to dig deep these last few weeks so that we have the resources to reach all the voters we need and make sure they get out to the polls.
The common political wisdom says that a campaign has to make a choice: you can either be everywhere and reach the people you need to, or you can lock yourself in a basement and fundraise. But when we launched this campaign, I knew I was setting out to buck the common wisdom and do things the way I knew was right— and our results speak for themselves.
If you’re committed to the cause and have a message that’s worth believing in, you don’t have to choose. We’ve crisscrossed the state at more than 160 campaign events in the last ten months, and we set an off-year fundraising record for a non-incumbent Democrat running for Treasurer. In fact, of those more than 1,300 donations from 69 different counties, a heck of a lot of them came in from folks I met out on the campaign trail who heard our message and believed in what we’re doing.
So if you also believe that the right thing to do is to keep showing up, if you believe that we need a Treasurer nominee who’ll keep putting miles on his car until we’ve reached every voter we can, and if you believe that our people deserve a government that will invest in them, then I’m asking you to please make a contribution of whatever you can afford today so we can finish January out strong. This campaign is the only campaign for Treasurer powered 91.7% by grassroots donors right here in North Carolina, and we can’t do it without you. [[link removed]]
