The future is ours to write

As a new year gathers pace, I find myself asking what does good look like in terms of impact in 2024? And how can we best make it happen?

At Forum for the Future, we remain focused on the urgent and rapid decarbonisation of our food and energy systems, and on unlocking the transformative role of the private sector. At all times recognising that every step towards system change will require broadening the goals of our economy well beyond short-term profit maximisation.

This vision inspires me. It also daunts me as it’s so BIG!

Which is why our approach (or ‘the how’) is probably as important as the what. Particularly right now as our political, economic, social and environmental challenges intensify.

At this point it would be reasonable (and maybe easier) to stop. And/or shout. How we respond is deeply personal and I’ve decided to aim for an approach that balances optimism and urgency, hard truths and practical action. These aren’t false choices, they aren’t even trade-offs.

Systems change requires a multiplicity of approaches. So, even as we experience fear, anger or despair, let’s remember that every action we take brings us closer to the future we want.

It’s ours to write. We just need to hurry up.
Happy New Year.

Dr Sally Uren, Forum CEO

How do we make responsible renewable energy the industry norm, where our planet and communities thrive together?

On 26 January, the inaugural International Day of Clean Energy, Forum and its partners launched the Responsible Energy Initiative Philippines calling for collaboration across the entire renewable energy value chain. From research and manufacturing to decommissioning and recycling, each stage holds a vital role in fostering an ecologically safe, socially just, and forward-looking energy transition.

Building a responsible renewable energy system in India: our strategy for 2024–2026

Collaboration is fundamental to embracing renewables.

In India, since 2021, we've partnered closely with more than 30 renewable energy (RE) industry leaders, fostering a collective effort to build an RE sector that is people and planet-centric. As momentum grows, more actors are joining, amplifying the impact of responsible RE.

Our ambition is clear: to lead India towards responsible RE practices, positioning the nation as a global pioneer in RE deployment.
