Hi John,
Ten years ago today, President Barack Obama signed the Affordable Care Act into law. Thanks to the ACA, tens of thousands of Mainers gained health care coverage, thousands of Maine young adults have been able to stay on their parents’ health insurance until age 26, and nearly 600,000 Mainers with preexisting conditions have been protected by guarantees that prevent health insurance companies from denying them coverage.
Unfortunately, the ACA is still under attack from Washington Republicans. Just yesterday, even during a global pandemic, President Trump said that his administration’s goal is to “terminate” the law.
Earlier this month, the Supreme Court announced that it would hear a case that threatens to overturn the Affordable Care Act. Susan Collins’ vote for the GOP tax bill made this case possible and could lead to a massive increase in uninsured Mainers. Indeed, Senator Collins has said that she has a record of voting “against Obamacare from the very beginning.” This is unacceptable.
As our nation faces an unprecedented public health crisis, we need leaders who will fight for care for every Mainer, not vote to put our health coverage in jeopardy. Click here to make a gift of $20.20 to help us defeat Trump and Collins and elect Democrats up and down the ticket.
Thank you,
Jeff
