Message from Rep. Tracey Mann. Having Trouble Viewing? Click Here. Fellow Kansan, Thank you for subscribing to my newsletter! I’m pleased to update you on my work in Washington, D.C. and the First District of Kansas. It is an honor to represent Kansans in the Big First District in the 118th Congress. I do not serve in Congress to be a caretaker in the slow demise of America – I serve to fight and work to make it stronger, and I believe our brightest days are yet to come. Yours in service, Mann.House.Gov The Week Ahead Yesterday, we celebrated the anniversary of Kansas joining the Union as a free state on January 29, 1861. Our state’s legacy was built by pioneers who worked the prairie, sought freedom, and believed in creating a brighter future for the next generation. Their drive, grit, and determination paved the way for those of us who came after, and those ideals are reflected in our state’s motto - Ad Astra Per Aspera. To the stars through difficulty. These ideals and values are still alive and well with Kansans in the Big First District. It is an honor to represent them in Congress, today and every day. Happy birthday, Kansas! The House is back in session and will consider several pieces of legislation regarding immigration and the crisis at our southern border, including H.R. 6679, the No Immigration Benefits for Hamas Terrorists Act and H.R. 6678, the Consequences for Social Security Fraud Act. Passing this legislation would send a strong signal to the world that terrorists are not welcome here and that Americans' hard-earned dollars will be protected from Social Security fraud. Today, the House Committee on Homeland Security will review articles of impeachment against U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Secretary Mayorkas has violated his oath of office to support and defend the Constitution of the United States by willfully refusing to comply with federal immigration laws and acting in a manner undermining the rule of law. While I do not serve on this committee, I am committed to holding Secretary Mayorkas accountable for his failed leadership and will support a motion to impeach if it reaches the House Floor. Committee Work This week, the House Small Business Committee will review my legislation, the National SBDC Advisory Board Improvement Act, which would streamline outreach efforts at Small Business Development Centers (SBDCs) and offer counseling and training to small businesses regarding innovation and business expansion. Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, and I will continue to defend small businesses, their owners, their employees, and the American values that they embody. The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee will also hold a markup to review legislation that will reduce regulatory burdens, improve wildfire and natural disaster responses, and more. Meetings in the Office Kansas State University Student Government Association University of Kansas Student Government Association Kansas Association of School Boards National Association of School Nurses National Federation of the Blind of Kansas In the Office Supporting Pediatric Cancer Studies The United States is fortunate to have the capacity to research cancer treatments to help defeat cancer and save lives. Currently, the Federal Drug Administration only allows pediatric cancer trials of single drugs. Unfortunately, children with relapsed cancer are rarely cured by one-drug treatments because the cancer is so advanced. I'm proud to cosponsor H.R. 3433, the Give Kids a Chance Act, which would eliminate federal barriers which currently prevent companies from studying combinations of cancer drugs and therapies in pediatric trials and create a wider landscape of lifesaving resources for children battling cancer. Empowering Peer-to-Peer Mental Health and Substance Abuse Recovery Addressing mental health and substance abuse across the country is crucial to revitalizing communities and restoring families. Peer-to-peer support enables those with shared experiences to work toward recovery, which is why I cosponsor the Providing Empathetic and Effective Recovery (PEER) Support Act. Training additional peer support specialists will meet an increased need in our communities and offer more lifesaving resources for individuals seeking recovery.
