Running for Senate wasn't the obvious path for me. I'm not a career politician, I have young kids at home, and honestly, most of what happens in Washington makes me really mad. So I want to tell you a little more about why I decided to get into this race (if you're already on board, you can make a donation here).

Senator John Cornyn has spent nearly 20 years in Washington putting special interests and DC bosses like Mitch McConnell ahead of the Texans he’s supposed to serve. Now he has more than $12 million in a war chest thanks to help from Big Pharma, the gun lobby, and the private prison industry -- and groups like the Koch network are spending big to support him, too.

I don't expect Sen. Cornyn to start putting Texans first anytime soon. That's why I had to get into the race. Will you pitch in now to help us win the runoff and head into the general election campaign in the strongest position possible?

Just in the last few years, Sen. Cornyn has voted to rip health care away from millions of Texans, opposed a bill to lower prescription drug prices, and stood in the way of any meaningful action on gun safety -- including basic measures that the vast majority of Texans approve of -- even after multiple mass shootings in our own state.

That’s not ok with me -- and I intend to do things differently. I will fight for you tooth and nail every single day, and my votes will always be based on what's best for Texans, not who's writing the biggest checks. As the only political outsider in the race and a working mom who has personally faced the struggles working families deal with every single day, you can be sure of that.
