John,
Yesterday, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled in favor of abortion rights, reviving a case that challenges limits on Medicaid coverage of abortions. This is amazing news!
Let’s be clear—a person’s right to control their own body should never hinge on their financial circumstances. Decisions like this one are exactly why we focus on county and state court races: elected judicial officials have enormous power over the lives and daily rights of their constituents.
Last year, we were proud to support Justice Daniel McCaffery, because having a pro-choice state Supreme Court is essential to protecting abortion rights in Pennsylvania. While abortion is legal in PA, it has not yet been recognized as explicitly protected by the Constitution. Yesterday’s ruling paves the way for future rulings to confirm that abortion is a Constitutional right.
The road to ensuring that all patients have abortion access regardless of wealth or income is a long one, but this is a vital first step.
From Michigan to Wisconsin to Pennsylvania, we’re proud to have invested in state Supreme Court races—and we’re just getting started.
In solidarity and celebration,
Team Vote Pro-Choice
