Dear John,
Just last week, hundreds of anti-choice demonstrators gathered at our State Capitol [[link removed]] for the “Annual March for Life” on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade . They carried small plastic fetuses meant to represent the number of abortions performed last year in Minnesota. Speakers at the rally falsely claimed the number of abortions performed last year in Minnesota doubled, blaming the increase in abortions on expanded abortion protections. They even argued expanding abortion access removes protections for women.
John, we know that anti-choice forces spread misinformation about abortion and reproductive care. We believe everyone deserves access to medically accurate information about all reproductive care.
A few blocks from our office, anti-choice protestors assemble on sidewalks near the Vandalia Street Planned Parenthood. They harass patients going into the clinic, demanding to know if they’re receiving an abortion. They carry pamphlets with medically inaccurate information about abortion. In Duluth, home of Northern Minnesota’s only abortion clinic, anti-abortion protestors have become more aggressive since the fall of Roe [[link removed]], even attempting to enter the clinic. Anti-choice forces are organizing at the MN Capitol – and in our hometowns – where they attempt to manipulate and frighten patients out of receiving care, and to overturn protections for abortion access.
We won’t be intimidated – Women Winning pro-choice champions are not backing down. [[link removed]]
Our elected officials show up to protect access to clinics and abortion. In Minneapolis, Women Winning endorsed Councilmembers spearheaded a city ordinance prohibiting occupation of the entrances of reproductive healthcare facilities, despite ongoing legal challenges to the ordinance [[link removed]]. In the Minnesota Legislature, Women Winning endorsed lawmakers fought hard to protect access to abortion and to protect the healthcare workers who provide abortions [[link removed]] .
John, wherever anti-choice forces organize in our state, Women Winning will be there to counter them.
Women Winning is already on the campaign trail – recruiting, training, and endorsing pro-choice candidates across the state. We facilitate the training that pro-choice women need to be successful in early primary campaigns, free of charge to all candidates. Through our PLOT Program [[link removed]], we recruit the next generation of political professionals to execute the ground game our candidates need to win. No matter how uphill the battle or staunch the opposition, we’ll be there to support pro-choice candidates.
