Building Power to End Gun Violence

in Communities of Color.

The Community Justice Policy & Advocacy Summit and Lobby Day is a two-day event that starts with a full day of training on organizing, policy, and advocacy and culminates with one-on-one meetings on Capitol Hill. Before taking to the Hill, participants of the training summit will receive immersive training both online and in person on the most effective ways of being advocates, and how best to communicate top priorities to their elected officials.

Building off the success of our 2023 Lobby Day, we continue to focus on a pressing challenge: gun violence as a public health crisis. Every day, hundreds of people of color across the country are impacted by the crisis of gun violence. This crisis not only affects our communities and health but also has a significant impact on our future. Strong federal, state and local policy solutions are essential, including campaigns around Break the Cycle of Violence Act and supporting Congressional Earmark allocations. 

These events are for you if you are: a survivor, policymakers, advocate, frontline staffer, coalition member or just interested in building part of the movement to end gun violence in communities of color. We will specifically focus on hearing from and supporting the work of Black and brown leaders across the country. 

The two-day experience kicks off on Tuesday, April 16th with an exciting and in-depth Policy and Advocacy Summit. This training will cover a review of the impact of gun violence in our communities, practice briefing sessions, and get a policy guide specific to the jurisdictions advocates are working in. Panels of frontline workers, elected officials, and community leaders will present an overall strategy for advocating on gun violence prevention in Black and brown communities. 

After registering for the Wednesday, April 17th Lobby Day participants will work closely with Community Justice staff and our partners to develop talking points and prepare for meetings with congressional offices.

On Lobby Day, participants will congregate on Capitol Hill for a day of targeted meetings with legislators and their staff where they will make the case for key policy priorities for communities of color.
