John,

We've hit the ground running in 2024, and we're coming to you with the first
campaign newsletter of the election year.

To start with, we kicked off 2024 with some very exciting news from Las
Cruces. I am very humbled to have been selected by Doña Ana County residents as
"Best Local Legislator" in theLas Cruces Bulletin's Best of the Mesilla Valley

UPDATES FROM THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL
My team and I have continued to crisscross New Mexico in January, meeting
with activists, everyday citizens, voters, businesses, and organizations all
looking for new leadership in our state who will fight for our economy,
security, and freedom.

Here are just some of the great people and places from this past month:

At the Grant County Pre-Primary Convention

ENDORSEMENT ALERT I am proud to have just earned the endorsement of The LIBRE
Initiative Action, a group committed to supporting candidates like me who
prioritize advancing freedom-minded policies that promote the well-being and
self-sufficiency of the Hispanic community and the nation.

There are not many places in the nation where the Hispanic community and
heritage are so central to our culture and identity, as is the case here in New
Mexico, particularly in the 2nd District.

I am proud to be recognized for my work with our Hispanic communities.

You can read more about The LIBRE Initiative Action's endorsement of our
campaign here.

OP-ED

A view of Cooke’s Range, part of the proposed Mimbres Peaks National Monument
in Luna County.
Courtesy Mason Cummings / The Wilderness Society
Another day, another example of Gabe Vasquez turning his back on the people
of southern New Mexico.

This time, Congressman Vasquez has been pressuring local mayors and city
councils from expressing opposition to a proposal to lock up a vast swath of
land in Luna County, without the support of local residents and that puts local
businesses at risk.

Radical environmental organizations, largely from outside of Luna County, are
pushing to designate over 245,000 acres around the Florida Mountains, Cooke’s
Range, the Good Sight Mountains, and Tres Hermanas peaks as a national
monument. This decision would not require a vote by local elected officials in
Luna County, the state Legislature, or even Congress. To make this area a
national monument, President Biden would simply issue a proclamation under the
Antiquities Act.

What would this proposal mean for the residents of Luna County who rely on
this area for their livelihood? To put it simply, it means Luna County will
lose any say on the future of how this part of their county will be managed
moving forward.
