John, moments ago, Common Cause submitted our amicus brief to the Supreme Court – where we make the case that Trump must be DISQUALIFIED from the ballot for inciting the Jan. 6th insurrection. [1]

Trump is arguing that the 14th Amendment doesn’t apply to him – effectively asking our highest court to ignore the U.S. Constitution and give him a “free pass” to run for office despite inciting an insurrection against the United States on January 6th.
With your help, John, we’ve been pushing back against Trump’s claims and shining a light on the holes in his legal arguments.
In the brief we just submitted, we document the truth: after hearing from both sides in a five-day trial, a Colorado court found strong evidence that the former president urged rioters to go to the Capitol with the intent of overturning the election.
Our Constitution – and especially our 14th Amendment – were written to protect our country from insurrectionists and demagogues who were willing to use violence to get their way, including ones who would stoke a violent mob to override the will of 80 million voters and the Electoral College. We simply cannot afford to ignore the lessons of the past.
To this day, Trump unapologetically and repeatedly praises the insurrectionists and promises to pardon them if re-elected. That’s why we’re urging the Court – for the sake of our democracy – to hold Trump accountable.
