John,

I just returned from Raqqa, Syria — once a thriving city, now turned to ruin.
While claiming to keep Americans safe, the U.S. government-led coalition
launched a bombardment of air attacks on Raqqa and its people.

Our government claims that very few civilian deaths occurred as a result of the
U.S.-led coalition’s actions in Syria. Here at Amnesty International, we couldn’t rest until we found out the truth. We conducted the most comprehensive investigation into civilian deaths in
modern warfare.

Here’s what we found out: that the U.S.-led coalition killed more than 1,600
civilians in Raqqa alone. And the U.S. government only admits to 10% of them.

Countless were maimed and traumatized. One of our researchers spoke with Ayat
Mohammad Jasem, who said:

“I saw my son die, burnt in the rubble in front of me. I’ve lost everyone who
was dear to me. My four children, my husband, my mother, my sister, my whole
family. Wasn’t the goal to free the civilians? They were supposed to save us, to
save our children.”

We cannot let this tragedy go unnoticed. Join me and demand the U.S. government
launch an investigation into civilian casualties in Raqqa now.

I won’t rest until the U.S.-led coalition fully investigates what happened in
Raqqa and is held accountable for it, to prevent a tragedy like this from
happening again. Countless people are struggling in the aftermath of this war,
and there needs to be accountability and reparations for survivors.

We must push for the truth, John. Demand justice by
taking action now.
