Friend --

This week’s e-mail has a LOT of info. It also contains several calls to action. We don’t want to overwhelm you, so we’ve prioritized the most time sensitive items first. However, while you stay at home, we encourage you to read the e-mail in its entirety. We hope the calls to action here provide you an opportunity to direct your angry or nervous energy into constructive organizing. Now more than ever is the time to unite, fight, and work together (even if we can’t do so face-to-face)! Solidarity forever.

CALLS TO ACTION

HEALTHY LA

As COVID-19 triggers a national state of emergency, and a statewide call to stay home and stay sheltered, many Angelenos are forced to put their health on the line simply to keep a roof over their heads. We've joined 150+ advocacy organizations, labor unions, service providers, religious congregations, and more as Healthy LA coalition. Sign our petition to urge LA City Council to protect residents, renters, and houseless Angelenos from hardships caused by COVID-19: healthyla.org/petition

OUR GOALS: Pressure City Council to support or file motions in line with our demands, focusing on three buckets: Protection for residents, workers, and unhoused people. We are urging folks to sign this petition, which contains detailed recommendations and then to call and email their Councilperson immediately!

SUPPORT RECLAIMING OUR HOMES FROM HOME!

Housing insecure residents (Reclaiming Our Homes) have seized a dozen of the homes amid coronavirus pandemicCalifornia Department of Transportation says it owns 87 vacant single-family homes — 404 properties total — along the 710 corridor in LA which had been purchased for an aborted highway expansion.

Urge your legislators to use vacant CalTrans homes to house the unsheltered IMMEDIATELY!

SOCIALIST QUARANTINE SCHOOL: THE LEFT'S RESPONSE TO COVID-19
Tuesday, March 24, 2020 // Zoom
Hosted by our comrades East Bay Democratic Socialists of America

The capitalist class never lets a good crisis go to waste, and the rapid spread of COVID-19 (the disease caused by the new coronavirus) is no exception. How will corporations use this crisis to further privatize our society? How will the right wing take the rapid spread of disease as an impetus to further marginalize racial minorities? How can the left resist these efforts and offer an alternative for a rational society based in democracy?

MARCH LOCAL MEETING
Saturday, March 28, 2020 at 3pm to 5pm // Zoom

In times like these, we need each other. Join us for our first online Local Meeting of the year where we will discuss and vote on new resolutions, and figure out how to best organize in Los Angeles over the next few months in our new reality living during a global pandemic. Come hang out with your fellow comrades online on Saturday, March 28th from 3-5pm

We recommend joining Zoom calls by computer or phone app because you will then be able to see other meeting attendees by webcam (it is not required to use a webcam and it can be turned off as well as your microphone muted if you prefer to just listen in). There is also the option of calling into Zoom meetings rather than joining by computer/phone app.

  • Here’s our quick how-to Zoom guide!
  • Resolutions to be voted on during our meeting can be found: here.

If you plan on attending and have any special accessibility needs, please email [email protected]
