This month’s Small Business Roundtable topic is "Labor Laws 2020: What’s New, What’s Overlooked and Ways to Protect Your Business" presented by R. Doug Taylor of Bean Kinney & Korman P.C.. In this virtual workshop, attendees will learn about changes in the rules that have updated the salary threshold for the Fair Labor Standard Act’s (FLSA) exemptions from overtime, how to classify independent contractors in the current gig economy, and how to avoid off-the-clock work, to minimize your risks as an employer. Also, in light of recent developments with COVID-19, Taylor will also discuss Families First Coronavirus Response Act and new paid FMLA leave and paid sick leave requirements.

Arlington County and Virginia Hospital Center have partnered to set up a drive-through coronavirus testing site. Arlington residents, county, and school system employees and Virginia Hospital Center patients, who are experiencing symptoms consistent with coronavirus and have a written order from a healthcare provider, will be eligible for testing.

Last week, The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) administratively declared an economic disaster for Arlington. The SBA is now offering low-interest federal disaster loans to small businesses suffering economic injury as a result of COVID-19. The Economic Injury Disaster Loans offer up to $2 million in assistance per small business, and can provide vital economic support to small businesses to help overcome the temporary loss of revenue they are experiencing.
