We have some great news from Philadelphia, John! An innocent
man who spent nearly three decades in jail is now free thanks to District
Attorney Larry Krasner’s Conviction Integrity Unit!

work.

Eddie Ramirez was wrongfully imprisoned for 27 years for a murder that he
didn’t commit. In 1993, he was convicted based on shaky eyewitness
testimony and sentenced to life in prison.

There was literally NO physical evidence.

Ramirez’s friends were questioned with no parent or attorney present and
were threatened and coerced into implicating him. Many have recanted their
testimonies since.

This was a common practice in Philadelphia in the 1990s — detectives
coercing false confessions and eyewitness testimony in order to lock
innocent Black and brown people in jail.

It’s why we worked so hard to elect Larry Krasner in 2017 and re-elect him
in 2021. He is working to right the wrongs of an unjust and racist legal
system.

Since District Attorney Larry Krasner took office in 2018, his Conviction
Integrity Unit (CIU) in Philadelphia has exonerated more than 35
wrongfully convicted people. These individuals collectively spent over 675
years in prison.

This is a powerful reminder of why we fight to elect civil rights-minded
DAs all across this country to free innocent people. It's about rectifying
the wrongs and rebuilding lives.
