Officially announcing my campaign for District 5 Supervisor
** [link removed]'s Official. I Am Running To Unseat Dean Preston. ([link removed])
------------------------------------------------------------
Hi John,
This weekend, I formally launched my campaign to be an elected member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, and unseat Dean Preston in District 5.
I am running because District 5 needs results, not excuses. 4 years ago, Dean came into office by just 185 votes. Since then, we have become accustomed to Dean's excuses on housing, victims rights, and the economy. He promised us housing, but gave us a parking lot. He promised us safety, but oversaw a record increase in opioid deaths.
We no longer have time for more broken promises in District 5.
As a Muslim American, child of immigrants, and renter in the Tenderloin, District 5 has always been my home away from home. And so alongside DCCC Chair Honey Mahogany and State Senator Scott Wiener and over 300 supporters, it was my honor to kickoff of the campaign in the Tenderloin.

A Movement Based On Unity
District 5 is a beacon. A beacon for immigration. A beacon for small business. A beacon for hope.
But for the last 4 years, our district has been struggling. And its going to take innovation, collaboration, and unity to turn it around.
"The status quo and political divides in our city have held us hostage," said DCCC Chair Honey Mahogany in her endorsement of our campaign. "We need a leader who cares deeply about urbanism, housing, public safety, and the environment."
State Senator Scott Wiener echoed Mahogany's endorsement. "It's clear we need more pragmatic leaders on the Board of Supervisors who will bring our city together and move it in the right direction."
A Movement Based on Innovation
To turn District 5 around I will focus on change through innovation and collaboration, and addressing the heart of our city's problems - bureaucracy and corruption as reported by the SF Examiner ([link removed]) .
We need bold solutions to tackle our most pressing challenges of housing, public health and safety, and jobs. I will work to end the corruption in our housing approval process, streamline the bureaucracy impeding our ability to hire 1000 missing first responders, and advocate for university towns to revitalize our economy, as
reported by the SF Chronicle ([link removed]) .
As I
told the SF Standard ([link removed]) , "If we can solve the challenges of District 5, we can solve the challenges of the entire city."

It's an honor of a lifetime to run to represent District 5. I hope you'll join me on this journey ([link removed]) .
Sincerely,
Bilal Mahmood
