*What's New:*

I took a number of actions last week to ensure Montana's
farmers and ranchers are protected during the Coronavirus outbreak.

I
sponsored a *bipartisan bill [link 3]* that provides relief to Montana
ranchers during the Coronavirus outbreak.

The bill creates a Cattle
Producer Payment Program to offset losses due to COVID-19 and support
ranchers for the calendar year 2020. The program would use USDA
projected prices for live and feeder cattle as the baseline for 2020 sales
losses.

I *also called
[link 4]*on the Department of Justice (DOJ) to
investigate the ongoing allegations of price-fixing and market
manipulation within the cattle market and the beef meatpacking
industry.

Additionally, I held a call with ag stakeholders including the Montana
Stockgrowers Association, Montana Farm Bureau, U.S. Cattlemen's
Association, Montana Grain Growers Association, and other leaders in Montana
ag to listen to the concerns of our farmers and ranchers across the
state.

Why It Matters:
*

This Coronavirus has only worsened market
conditions and it is critical that we provide the necessary support for
Montana ag. Montana ranchers need relief quickly while we continue to
work on the long term issues with market competition.

What's Next:*

I
will continue to work on policies that strengthen Montana ag and
protect our farmers and ranchers during this outbreak. We will overcome
this crisis together
