THE INDIANA DESTINATION DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION RELEASES 2022 CONTRIBUTION OF TRAVEL & TOURISM TO THE INDIANA ECONOMY

*INDIANAPOLIS (Jan. 30, 2024)* ??A new study released by?Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch [ [link removed] ]?with the Indiana Destination Development Corporation [ [link removed] ] (IDDC) shows the Indiana tourism industry's growing momentum and continued positive economic impact.
"I am immensely proud of the impact our state's thriving tourism industry has had on our state," said Lt. Gov. Crouch, Indiana?s Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development. "The success of Indiana tourism impacts all sectors of our economy, and together we are continuing to make Indiana a premier destination for visitors and creating opportunity for our residents."
Here are some of the highlights [ [link removed] ]of the report [ [link removed] ]:
* Total Indiana visitor volume grew 4.5% in 2022 to 80.8 million person-trips;
* Visitor spending grew by 16% to $15.1B;
* Spending per visitor rose to $188;
* Tourism generated $2.8B in federal, state and local taxes;
* Indiana tourism supported 200,000 full and part time jobs.
"As a state, we made notable strides in growing Indiana's tourism industry and I am thrilled to witness the positive momentum," said IDDC Secretary and CEO Elaine Bedel. "From tourism jobs, to the visitors directly benefiting businesses across the state, the positive economic impact of tourism is felt by every Hoosier and we intend to build on this impact year-over-year."
The study was commissioned by the IDDC and conducted by Rockport Analytics, an independent market research and consulting company specializing in economic?impact?and feasibility studies for the travel, tourism and hospitality industry. The methodology employed by this study is in accordance with industry best practices and aligns?economic?impact?data at the state and local level with rigorous methodological standards that are recognized as the highest in the industry.
The study used data on Indiana visitor spending derived from multiple sources including Longwoods International, Reach Market Planning and the U.S. Commerce Department's National Travel & Tourism Office. It was then reconciled with Bureau of Labor Statistics reported employment data, Indiana Department of Revenue reported tax receipts and secondary sources such as Smith Travel Research.
