Dear John,
Over the last few months, we have seen the death toll in Gaza rise to over 26,000. It’s easy to gloss past that number and forget the fact that it represents over 26,000 real people — with souls, with family, with dreams.
After the horrific attacks by Hamas on October 7th, President Biden showed deep moral clarity. And I applaud him for that. But we need to see the same moral concern for the Palestinian lives lost since. As one Congresswoman put it, “The cries of the Palestinian and Israeli children sound no different to me.”
That is why I have been calling for an immediate ceasefire since the beginning of the war. We need a ceasefire now . We need the release of the hostages. And we need a two-state solution. The United States should show equally robust concern for the safety, security and sovereignty of both Israelis and Palestinians.

President Biden is increasingly unpopular with young Americans — and on the world stage — for his unequivocal support of Netanyahu’s policies. While we are told the President is trying to rein in the Israeli Prime Minister, he continues to give Netanyahu military and financial support and to block all attempts to hold Israel accountable for human rights abuses.
I would put an end to this war by withholding further military or financial support to Israel until they have demonstrated a sure change of policy. There never was a military solution to this problem, and there is not a military solution now.
The problem between Israelis and Palestinians has been brewing for years, and we must remember the words of Franklin Delano Roosevelt. He said we need to do more than end war; we need to end the beginnings of all wars. We must address not only the reality of war but also its causes. We need a President who sees and understands this and is not afraid to say it.
Please contribute to the Marianne Williamson for President campaign so we can begin a new conversation — and effectuate new policies — regarding war and peace in this world. America can be a leader in peace-building, not simply a purveyor of military might. When I am President, we will do that.
