Deadly Drone Mix-Up

The U.S. failed to stop a deadly attack on an American military outpost in Jordan when the enemy drone approached its target at the same time a U.S. drone was also returning to base, as the NYT reports.

UN Workers Took Part in Hamas Attacks

More than a dozen employees of the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees allegedly played a role in the Hamas-led attacks on Israeli towns on Oct. 7, with some actively involved in kidnappings, as The Washington Post reports. And, as the WSJ reports, around 10% of all of its Gaza staff have ties to Islamist militant groups

NK Cruise Missiles Tested

Kim Jong-un supervised test-firings of new cruise missiles designed to be launched from submarines and also reviewed efforts to build a nuclear-powered submarine while reiterating his goal of building a nuclear-armed navy just a day after South Korea’s military said it detected North Korea firing multiple cruise missiles over waters near the eastern port of Sinpo, as the AP reports.

Smiles

No one was bigger in music in the 1980s than Pat Benatar. She sold over 36 million records and recorded 15 Top 40 hits. She was a style icon of her time (see “Fast Times at Ridgemont High”) with a powerful voice and a sneering rock star attitude. I’ve always loved Benatar’s songs. So when I found out that Benatar and her husband/collaborator Neil Giraldo recorded a new special for Austin City Limits, I couldn’t help but be intrigued. How would they present after all of these years? Their sound, as powerful and catchy as ever, is a real smile.
