The findings in this research suggest that chemical additives on water bottles have been tied to breast and prostate cancer, heart disease and diabetes, and issues with adult fertility and children’s brain development.
The most concerning are a class of additives known as “endocrine disruptors” - which are chemicals that mimic and confuse hormone signaling in humans.
This is just another reason why you should recycle your plastic water bottles… for good!
SEEC Member Rep. Jared Huffman (CA-02) knows how we won’t be able to break our dependence from plastics without federal action. That’s why he introduced the Break Free From Plastic Pollution Act, which tackles every end of the plastic supply chain, from requiring the producers to take responsibility for their pollution, to making it easier for consumers to recycle.
Our SEEC Members are committed to reducing plastic and protecting us from these dangerous chemicals. Will you chip in to support our work today?
The other problem? The cost.
In 2018, these chemicals found on our water bottles cost the nation almost $250 billion in bad health effects - just shy of the 2024 proposed budget for the entire state of California!
Not only are plastics bad for the environment, but they’re dangerous and costly as well.
If you want to reduce our use of plastic and save our planet, please donate now to support our SEEC Members, like Rep. Jared Huffman, and help us continue the fight in Congress!
