Each and every day I am incredibly proud to be your Congresswoman. Since day one, my work in Congress has been guided by New Mexicans who have shared their dreams, hopes, and priorities for our state. I cannot wait to keep building that brighter future alongside you. I wanted to share some of the work I’ve been up to: Protecting Seniors Against Food Insecurity | Far too many seniors across New Mexico struggle with food insecurity. Since becoming your Congresswoman, I have been fighting every single day to invest in the well-being of our communities. Last week, I had the privilege of visiting Meals on Wheels to see their facility and talked with constituents to learn how these programs benefit them. I am grateful that programs like this exist, and I will keep supporting legislation to ensure these programs help New Mexicans for generations to come. Ensuring Housing is a Human Right | Housing is a human right. Right now, nearly one out of three renters in our district spend more than half of their income on housing. We need resources and solutions to keep housing affordable and accessible for New Mexicans—including in Valencia County. That’s why I am proud to have gathered with Valencia leaders to discuss our rural housing crisis. Supporting Our Local Restaurants | Small businesses are the backbone of our community. Having grown up waiting tables and working for small family businesses, I am working every day to ensure our small businesses can grow and thrive. Last week we stopped by Lily and Liam Bistro, got our chile on, and talked about what we can do to help our small businesses grow. Fighting to Protect the Right to Bodily Autonomy
| We just passed the 51st anniversary of Roe v. Wade. Right now, extremists in Congress and the Courts are continuing their efforts to ban abortion and undermine our fundamental rights. I will always defend legislation that supports the right to a safe and legal abortion. Just a couple weeks ago, House Republicans brought two anti-choice bills to the floor. The bills claim to support women but in reality, they are thinly veiled attempts to restrict and stigmatize abortion care. I voted NO. Celebrating $3.5 Billion Investment in Intel in Rio Rancho | Last week, we celebrated a $3.5 billion investment in Intel in Rio Rancho. This crucial funding was made possible by the ingenuity of New Mexicans who are leading the way in microchip manufacturing right here at home. This project will change the way computer chips are made forever—and they’ll be manufactured right here in New Mexico’s 1st Congressional District. This is in part by the passage of the CHIPS Act, which will re-shore hundreds of companies back to the United States, and companies just like Intel will be able to expand their work in New Mexico and all around the country. | It has been almost 80 years since the Trinity nuclear test at White Sands Missile Range. It is unconscionable that the downwinders have still not been compensated for the lasting effects in the Tularosa Basin. I hosted a conversation with Tina Cordova to uplift her tireless work to get the Tularosa Downwinders the justice they deserve. I promise I won’t stop fighting until they receive the compensation they are rightfully owed. Addressing Crime in Our Communities | Addressing crime and violence in our communities is critical to keeping our families safe. Last week, I visited the Albuquerque Police Real Time Crime Center which is working to help get criminals off the streets. Fighting for a Just Immigration System | Seeking asylum is a human right. Right now, conservatives are floating anti-immigrant proposals to gut our asylum system. To maintain the dignity of those seeking asylum, we need more resources for border communities, more staffing, more technology, more support, and more ability to address the crisis that border communities are seeing.
