** Hold on a second, didn't they say this was all about China?
------------------------------------------------------------
Citizens' Climate Lobby ([link removed]) (1/29/24) press release: "The bipartisan PROVE IT Act (S.1863) has been introduced in the Senate and will soon be introduced in the House. We need to build support for it in Congress!

** Tell your members of Congress to cosponsor it because it:
------------------------------------------------------------
* Measures the carbon emissions of certain goods in the U.S. and other nations
* Paves the way for a carbon border adjustment mechanism (CBAM)
* Already has Republican and Democratic support

CBAMs are an effective tool that can work quickly to lower global carbon emissions. This is our first step."

** "The world needs America’s LNG, and is likely to need more and more of it as time goes on. The White House’s action to delay the already-ridiculously slow permitting process in such an obvious political move is as reprehensible as it is, frankly, stupid."

============================================================

Judging by the amount of money China spends to boost these eco groups, it certainly seems like they stand to benefit from our self-destructive climate policies.

** Fox News ([link removed])
(1/29/24) reports: "Republican leaders on three top House committees are probing an environmental group with ties to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) over its funding for U.S. climate initiatives. House Energy and Commerce Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers, R-Wash.; Science, Space, and Technology Chair Frank Lucas, R-Okla.; and Natural Resources Chair Bruce Westerman, R-Ark., penned a letter to Energy Foundation CEO and President Ji Chou, informing him of their investigation into his organization. The letter comes following a Fox News Digital report that uncovered $3.8 million in donations the Energy Foundation sent to American climate groups... 'The Energy Foundation's ties to China are both extremely disturbing and reprehensible,' Tom Pyle, the president of the Institute for Energy Research, told Fox News Digital in an interview last month. 'These environmental organizations, the recipients of this money, are, in essence, sacrificing our national security and empowering China.'"

And we're destroying all the benefits from free trade and alienating our allies for non-existent climate benefits.

** The Wall Street Journal ([link removed])
(1/29/24) reports: "Diplomats and officials across Europe are wondering whether the bloc can rely on the U.S. to continue backing the rules-based trading system—or if they face the possibility of economic conflict between the longtime allies. The EU has taken some steps to support its own domestic industries, relaxing some of its subsidy rules to make it easier for European governments to compete with U.S. clean-technology incentives. But EU officials still largely cling to traditional free-trade ideals, hesitant to embrace a U.S. approach they say reminds them of tactics favored by Beijing. European officials have warned Washington that U.S. moves to compete with China are creating collateral damage across the Atlantic."

And just a reminder: climate nihilism is detached from reality.

** Human Progress ([link removed])
(1/26/24) blog: "According to the founder of environmental activist group Extinction Rebellion, climate change will lead to the 'slaughter, death, and starvation of 6 billion people this century.' According to Just Stop Oil, the climate group behind many disruptive actions making news headlines, any further exploration of oil and gas will amount to 'genocide' and the 'starvation and the slaughter of billions,' and will 'condemn humanity to oblivion.' Four in 10 Americans** ([link removed](39%25)%20think%20the%20odds%20that%20global%20warming%20will%20cause%20humans%20to%20become%20extinct%20are%2050%25%20or%20higher.%C2%A0Most%20Americans%20(58%25)%20think%20the%20odds%20of%20human%20extinction%20from%20global%20warming%20are%20less%20than%2050%25)
believe that global warming will likely lead to human extinction. Not surprisingly, a quarter of childless adults cite climate change** ([link removed])
as part of their motivation for not having children. After all, what’s the point of having children** ([link removed])
if you can’t give them a liveable future? As one young woman put it: 'I feel like I can’t in good conscience bring a child into this world and force them to try and survive what may be apocalyptic conditions.' Before we consider the future of our climate, let’s get some perspective. Here’s a not unimportant consideration should you contemplate having a baby: What are its chances of dying? Fifty years ago, in 1973, the global child mortality rate was three-and-a-half times higher than today (three times, even in the U.S.), and in 1923, it was almost nine times higher. The distant past was even worse. For all of human history up until the Industrial Revolution, at least three in 10 children died before reaching their fifth birthday. In the past half-century, extreme poverty has also been slashed, for the first time in history: While nine out of 10 people were extremely poor before the Industrial Revolution, today the proportions are inverted: Fewer than one in 10 falls below the absolute
poverty level. In almost every respect, the world is a much better place to be born right now than at any previous time in history."
