How do we stop a major oil company seeking to plunder the Amazon? One way is to dry up the flow of money for their disastrous projects.
Right now, state oil company and gross polluter Petroperú is struggling to finance its projects thanks to activism by Indigenous peoples and allies like you. Our campaigns have already deterred investors, leaving the company with only one option to keep operating: seek a $1 billion investment from international banks like Citi.
So now, we’re pressuring these banks to stop the flow of money for Petroperú’s crude projects for good! In April, Amazon Watch will accompany a delegation of Indigenous leaders from the Peruvian Amazon to New York to confront Citi executives, prevent their investment in Petroperú, and keep Wampís, Achuar, and Chapra territories free from oil drilling. Are you with us?
We know these tactics work. In 2023, Amazon Watch, the Wampís, Chapra, and Achuar nations and Peruvian coastal communities halted an investment in Petroperú from Italy’s export credit agency SACE. We pressured SACE to stick to its climate commitments and not to fund Petroperú’s environmental and human rights abuses. We’ll do the same as Petroperú tries its final option to get a loan from banks like Citi.
Will you support our campaign to stop Petroperú and End Amazon Crude with a donation today? Your gift is a direct act of solidarity with Indigenous peoples leading the phaseout of fossil fuels.
The stakes for the Amazon and our planet have never been higher. And our Indigenous-led movement has never been more powerful or better positioned to End Amazon Crude, for good.
