John,
Today is my birthday, but it's no longer a day full of celebration and joy the way it used to be. It hasn't been since my sweet little Daniel was murdered at Sandy Hook Elementary.
When Daniel was taken from me, a part of my heart and soul were taken, too. Being a mother means you experience joy beyond compare and a depth of love that's nearly impossible to describe. But it's also the greatest risk your heart and soul can take.
The immense love and joy he brought to my life in the short time he was with me have made this pain worth carrying. But today is still so, so hard for me. I don't want to make you sad, but more than anything I don't want another parent to have to face a birthday with the indescribable heartache of knowing they've outlived their child.
So for my birthday this year, I'm asking for donations to Sandy Hook Promise so we can protect more children like my sweet little Daniel from gun violence.
Please, will you donate now to help us prevent future school shootings? On especially painful days like today, it helps to know that Daniel's legacy is saving precious lives.
Please donate $10, or as much as you can, to Sandy Hook Promise now. Your donation will help us do everything we possibly can to protect more children like Daniel from gun violence.

Every day with Daniel was a gift. I'm so grateful for the time I was given with him. Even when the pain feels unbearable, I wouldn't take back those seven years we had together, and I'll forever cherish each and every memory we made.
The greatest gift I can imagine receiving this birthday is your continued support for the work we do to save children's lives. Thank you for honoring Daniel's memory – today and always.
