From ongoing attacks in the Middle East to unbearable winter conditions at home and abroad, the start of the new year has been especially difficult for our active-duty troops. That’s why we’re doing everything we possibly can to support our brave heroes who are already sacrificing so much to protect us and our nation in 2024.
USO FRONT LINES
The First Stop on Their Trip Home
No matter where their service takes them, the USO is with our active-duty heroes every step of the way of their military journey — from enlistment to basic training to triumphant returns to families. And this past December, as tens of thousands of service members headed home for the holidays, we were there to provide our network of support and serve as the first stop on their trip.
USO Reading Program Connects Heroes to Home During the Holidays
Even when service members are deployed, many of them still get to enjoy spending time reading to their children thanks to the USO Reading Program. This incredible program helps children connect with parents on active duty through books about their favorite characters and superheroes — before the true heroes in uniform can come home.
Vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Adm. Christopher Grady and six all-star celebrities recently toured across Europe to give 4,000 U.S. troops and family members a much-needed boost during their deployment this cold winter. Singer Brett Young, football player Vince Wilfork, illusionist Justin Flom, actor Dulé Hill and magicians Penn & Teller joined Adm. Grady to visit with and perform live for our troops as a way of honoring and thanking them for their service.
A group of runners will represent the USO at this year's Boston Marathon on Monday, April 15, including active-duty service members, veterans, military spouses and more! By representing the USO, they raise funds on behalf of the organization to assist in the USO's mission of keeping service members connected to family, home and country.
