Friends — It may be a new year, but my goals remain the same as they’ve always been: fighting for the futures of my fellow neighbors in Massachusetts and for the progressive change our nation so desperately needs.

If that’s all you need to hear, make a contribution towards our January fundraising deadline using the button below. Otherwise, I hope you can take just a short moment to read my note to you today.

I got my first chance to serve the people of Massachusetts when I was first elected to represent my district in the Massachusetts Statehouse. (But really, my first job where I served the people was when I was serving up frozen treats from my ice cream truck. Yes, that’s really me.)

From the Statehouse I went on to be elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, and finally to the U.S. Senate. And throughout my career, I’ve made it my mission to hold fast to my Malden values and deliver real, progressive change for the people I represent.

When those on both sides of the aisle denied the newfound evidence of climate change, I called for a clean, green revolution, and continued on to lead the introduction of the Green New Deal years later.

When LGBTQ+ rights were still opposed by a majority, I voted against the homophobic Defense of Marriage Act and opposed ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.’ I was an original co-sponsor of the Equality Act , and last year I introduced the Transgender Bill of Rights in the Senate.

After the 2008 financial crash wrecked our economy, I helped secure millions in funding for new jobs and economic opportunities in Massachusetts, while working to hold the big banks accountable for the pain they brought to working families.

When natural gas explosions devastated the Merrimack Valley in 2018, I brought a Congressional field hearing to Lawrence to hold Columbia Gas executives accountable and passed the Leonel Rondon Pipeline Safety Act law to strengthen pipeline safety by closing regulatory loopholes.

And the thing is, through each of these big wins and challenging times, I was never alone . I had the power of a progressive movement on my side, pushing the cause of justice forward and making change possible. Now, I’m calling on that movement to help me again today.

We are coming up on our first fundraising deadline of the year in just two days. It’s crucial that we start the year strong and have the resources we need to continue the fight in 2024.

Help me continue to serve the people and fight for our progressive values in the Senate by making a contribution today. Do it before our deadline comes on Wednesday. I can’t do this alone. [[link removed]]

I’m proud of my track record, but there’s still work to be done. Let’s crush this fundraising deadline and show that we’re ready to do so much more to deliver progressive change.

In solidarity,

Ed Markey
