Dear John,

With January already behind us, we’re eager to see what God has in store for the rest of 2024! Prison Fellowship programs are working to transform lives and make communities safer in and outside prison, at every level. We’re not only serving incarcerated men and women but also correctional officials, who have immense potential to impact the lives of prison residents for the better.

Warden Exchange gathers wardens and other senior corrections leaders to reimagine prison. We bring in thought leaders to share innovative ideas and practices to improve outcomes behind bars. It’s an incredible program I’ve been able to witness firsthand. Graduates work to build safer, more restorative prison environments so residents can rejoin society as good citizens.

In 2023, Warden Exchange served 134 participants, and we’ve already registered 120 participants for 2024! We’ve launched a new and improved program design and standardized curriculum. With that, we’ve incorporated a prison culture assessment in partnership with North Dakota’s department of corrections to help wardens bring lasting, measurable change to their prisons. This year, our participants represent 22 states from Arizona to Kansas to Rhode Island.

I would echo the words of Ralph Diaz, vice chairman of the Prison Fellowship Board of Directors and member of Warden Exchange advisory panel. “They wouldn't be wardens if they weren't leaders, and Warden Exchange pulls it out of them,” said Ralph. “It allows them to be free to be that leader that's deep inside them.”

I’m encouraged that our board members believe so deeply that God is doing a great work through Prison Fellowship. That’s why I’m eager to share some great news about a new initiative the board is leading to help us put our best foot forward in 2024. They have come together to offer a special challenge gift of $866,000 to support our leadership transition and to usher the ministry into a new chapter.

The board has been continually inspired by the commitment of supporters and volunteers who give of their time, talents, and treasure every day. Every gift given with this challenge through June 30, 2024, will help bring hope and healing to even more men, women, and their families.
