Hi there, my name is Matt.

I wanted to take a quick moment to introduce myself. I’m Matt Hennessey, Elissa’s campaign manager, so it’s my job to make sure that we do everything in our power to make her Michigan’s next Senator.

I wanted to put together this note because I’ve been working for Elissa for a long time. I started working for her in the 2020 election cycle, her first re-election campaign to the House of Representatives. It was a tough race, right in the middle of COVID, but a race that we won – making Elissa one of just seven House Democrats to sit in a seat also won by Donald Trump. After that, I headed to DC to work in her congressional office, serving as Elissa’s Chief of Staff. And last year, I officially joined the Senate campaign team as campaign manager to elect Elissa to the Senate.

In politics, it’s common for staff to jump around from candidate to candidate, switching states and campaigns each cycle. I am proud of the fact that Elissa’s team is different – many of our staff have been around for years. And that’s because of our belief in Elissa, and in the mission.

I count myself as one of the very fortunate in that I’ve had the opportunity to get to know Elissa really well, make tough decisions with her, and witness her leadership. And although we’re going to spend the next 281 days traveling the state of Michigan and meeting as many of you as possible, most folks probably won’t have the privilege of knowing her as well as I do.

So let me tell you about Elissa.

Elissa is not only brilliant, she does her homework and always comes prepared. She’s open minded, and encourages people around her to challenge her and always ask for the “why” in doing things. She works harder than anyone else and sets high standards for herself and those around her. She’s deeply principled and believes in public service and the mission to her core. She is precisely the person Michigan needs making tough decisions when the chips are down–which is why I know she will be an excellent Senator for the state. (She has also been known to swear like a sailor and share puppy and animal-related social media content with the staff, but I digress.)

The other reason I’m in your inbox is because a big part of my job is to raise enough money to compete in this race. And I’ll be honest—we’ve never had to raise this much money, even in our tough previous races. This is going to be one of the most expensive Senate races Michigan has ever seen, and orders of magnitude more expensive than our 2020 House race.

So, as one of the people who knows her best, will you help us send Elissa to the Senate?
