Anti-choice politicians are saying the quiet part out loud, as they undermine the democratic process in an effort to further destroy abortion rights.

Ballot initiatives are referendums that allow voters to weigh in directly on important issues, and they’ve been used in states like Kansas, Michigan, and Ohio to expand reproductive rights or prevent encroachment of them. Now, we’re seeing an ongoing trend of anti-choice politicians doing everything in their power to stop ballot measures.

In Ohio, anti-choice officials are responding to last year’s win for abortion rights by changing the funding structure for ballot initiatives.

And in Mississippi, the legislature is trying to build a ballot initiative process that would explicitly exclude measures that would change the state’s abortion laws.

Since Roe was overturned in 2022, abortion has won every time it’s on the ballot, making clear that a majority of Americans believe in our right to control our own bodies.
