New Gun Laws: Long Gun Transfers

House Bill 4138, House Bill 4142, and House Bill 4143 amend Michigan's existing Handgun Licensure Act to apply several of its provisions to all firearms rather than just pistols. The detailed official legislative analysis of this bill package can be found HERE.

Note that for pistols, it will now be the responsibility of the seller rather than the buyer to turn in the Firearms Sales Record. Unlike for pistols, there is no registration of long gun transfers with the Michigan State Police Firearms Records Unit.
