John,

We’re facing a new reality in a world being shut down by the coronavirus pandemic.

It’s one that grows more confronting by the day. People are anxious about where this is heading, and that’s understandable.

At the end of the day, this is about people’s lives. Now is the time to listen, to learn and to act. Without delay.

That’s particularly the case when it comes to protecting our many vulnerable people – our parents and grandparents, the disadvantaged and the First Australians. We owe them our best.

In today’s emergency session of Parliament, there are fewer of us here. But our actions today will be felt and measured for a long time.

Please take a few minutes to watch my address to the Parliament and please share it with your family and friends.

I lead a Labor team determined to be constructive. Labor stands ready to play our role.

We need the Government to get it right. And this Parliament must get this right. All of us.

We find ourselves in a time like no other. But we can get through this, together.

Stay safe.
