** The House Hits Full Stride
------------------------------------------------------------

Week 3

As we conclude our third week of session, more than 1,500 bills have been filed and committees are busily working their way through hearing them.

Our office is bustling with visitors again, and I am excited to welcome them into our beautiful new building. Visitors of all ages and backgrounds crowded our office to share their legislative priorities. It is my absolute honor to hear your concerns and to represent them in The General Assembly.

** On The Floor this Week: Farming & 2A
------------------------------------------------------------

I remain deeply concerned about the legislation passed by the House this week that makes major changes to the way our family farms will be required to conduct business. Instead of trusting farmers and their employees to work out the terms of their employment, this legislation would put politicians squarely in the middle, likely driving a significant number of our remaining family farms out of business. I oppose this legislation and will continue to work with my colleagues to protect the farms and farmers who put food on our tables.

There are also a significant number of bills that have been filed that would impact our Second Amendment rights, including bans on certain types of firearms. Fortunately, our Republican team – including Governor Youngkin – remains committed to our God-given liberties.

As anticipated, all pro 2A bills are dead on arrival, failing to advance through Democrat controlled subcommittees. My bill, HB289 ([link removed]) , which would allow concealed carry with a permit in public parking lots, went down in flames in a partisan vote in subcommittee.

My staff and I continue to monitor these bills and will update you as we learn more.

We also continue to work on the biennial state budget. Governor Youngkin’s presented budget is a good place to start, but I am working to make a few changes that represent our local priorities.

** The Political Games Have Started
------------------------------------------------------------

If you know me, I’m here to represent citizens, not play political football.

I have a bill, HB334 ([link removed]) , that is being held hostage. Folks, this bill is simplistic. It is a cleanup for a policy that is not even being utilized by localities. HB334 repeals an existing statute that allows localities by ordinance to require certification of boiler and pressure vessel operators. Rather than moving through the process, Democrats have held this bill hostage in committee. Once they found it that it was coming from the Governor's office, it caught a fever. According to VML and VACO, there has not been one locality speaking against it. If Democrats are willing to do this with simple legislation to clean up code, are they really interested in serving citizens, or are they just looking to deal a Republican a perceived loss?
