Celebrating National School Choice Week

This week, we celebrated National School Choice Week. As the grandfather of fourteen beautiful grandchildren, I know that God created every child to be unique, and the best school for one child may not be the best school for another.

That's why I am proud to express my unwavering support for empowering America’s families to have a voice and enabling them to choose the K-12 learning environment that best fits their children’s needs. I also joined my colleagues in introducing a resolution expressing support for school choice and designating January 21-27, 2024 as National School Choice Week.

To mark the occasion, I had the honor of visiting A.R. Johnson Health Science and Engineering Magnet School in Augusta. During my visit, I met remarkable young students who gave a presentation on the steps and processes they followed in building their own rocket, witnessed a successful rocket launch, and observed informative demonstrations on taking an individual's blood pressure and performing CPR. School choice is about helping students find and pursue their passion, and Georgia-12 is leading by example!

Honoring the Winners of the 2023 Congressional App Challenge

I hosted a ceremony at Lakeside High School in Evans to formally recognize the winners of the 2023 Congressional App Challenge for Georgia's 12th District.

Lakeside students Iziq Thomas, Jerry Fan, and Kunsh Sharma were chosen for the award, offered annually to students across the nation, for their work developing Circa—a software application designed to aid users in achieving balance in various aspects of life, with a particular focus on mental health.

The Congressional App Challenge is America’s most prestigious prize in student computer science, and I am proud to offer my sincerest congratulations to Iziq, Jerry, and Kunsh for this well-deserved recognition.

Glennville Rotary

I also attended the Glennville Rotary Club meeting in Tattnall County to give an update on my work in Washington as we begin the Second Session of the 118th Congress. I spoke about the crisis unfolding along our southern border, the economy, and more. It's always a pleasure to see so many familiar faces; thanks for having me!

Visiting Brewton-Parker College

I traveled to Mount Vernon in Montgomery County to visit Brewton-Parker College (BPC)—a private Baptist college founded in 1904. I received a tour of the nursing building from President Steve Echols and learned more about the expansion plans for the nursing school. As the need for well-educated health care workers in rural Georgia continues to grow, BPC is doing its part by offering the foundational training that nurses need to be successful throughout their careers. Thanks for the tour!

McDuffie County Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner

I attended the McDuffie County Chamber of Commerce's 52nd Annual Dinner to recognize the selfless service and dedication of our local leaders who have made a lasting impact on the community. I extend my heartfelt congratulations and gratitude to all of the award winners and public servants in McDuffie County who contribute their time and energy to ensuring our local communities thrive.

RESCHEDULED: 2024 Youth Leadership Summit

This year's Youth Leadership Summit has been rescheduled for Monday, February 26, 2024. The goal of the summit is to equip and inspire the next generation of leaders by helping them hone their leadership skills as they prepare for the future.

The 2024 Youth Leadership Summit will be hosted at the Columbia County Student Support Complex and registration is now open for junior and senior high school students in Georgia's 12th District. Schools may send up to six students and two chaperones. Participants are encouraged to register on my website no later than Friday, February 9th.

Stay Connected

One of the best ways for me to serve you in Congress is by hearing your thoughts and concerns. Throughout the year, I host live Telephone Town Hall meetings to connect with constituents throughout the 12th District.

These meetings are similar to a traditional town hall meeting but are conducted by phone, where you can dial in from the comfort of your own home. The meetings typically last around one hour, with time for you to ask questions, hear live answers, and participate in a number of poll questions that will aid my decision-making in Washington.
